How to Choose Beverage Packaging for the UAE and GCC

Visual Group Blog

A practical guide to selecting cans, bottles, cartons, powders or other beverage formats for regional launch and scale.

The pack must survive the business journey

Beverage packaging in the UAE has to support production, transport, storage, retail display and the consumption occasion. An attractive pack that creates excessive freight, heat exposure or minimum-order risk is not a successful choice.

Begin with the product and channel, not the latest design trend.

Match format to occasion

Cans can work well for carbonated, portable and premium single-serve occasions. PET may support practical volume and weight requirements. Glass can communicate quality in hospitality but adds breakage and freight. Cartons suit certain ambient products, while powders and tablets can reduce the movement of water and work well online.

There is no universally premium material. Premium is the complete experience.

Confirm the processing route

Recipe characteristics determine which filling and processing systems are suitable. Carbonation, acidity, juice, proteins, particulates and heat sensitivity affect factory choice and shelf life.

Confirm the container, closure, print area and legal panel with the manufacturer before completing artwork.

Model regional logistics

Consider pallet efficiency, container utilisation, warehouse conditions, last-mile delivery and the markets the product may enter. Imported empty packaging can be surprisingly inefficient, while locally available options may improve continuity.

Assess the complete delivered cost and the risk of holding unused printed stock.

Plan the test and the scaled pack

Small-run sleeves, labels or digital print can help validate the market, although unit economics will be higher. Larger printed commitments should follow evidence of demand.

The right packaging strategy allows the founder to test without designing a dead end. It should provide a credible path from first production to repeatable regional supply.

Questions to resolve before proceeding

Use the article as a decision check. Confirm how the business will address the pack must survive the business journey; match format to occasion; confirm the processing route. Record the evidence behind each answer before committing to the next major cost.
